When to choose a soft starter instead of a drive

• The load always runs at full speed: a soft starter is cheaper and more efficient at full load.
• If the load varies (fans, pumps), a variable speed drive saves far more energy.

Connecting to Plantmargin

Use the Modbus option, or wire run and fault contacts to a digital input module. Plantmargin reads starts, current and faults every 10 seconds through the edge gateway, stores it for years as hourly figures, draws it against its normal band, and uses it in cost per unit, alarms and verified savings. The installer pack for your plant lists the exact register or channel to use.

• Size for the motor current and the number of starts per hour; heavy starts (crushers, mills) need a larger unit.
