Variable speed drive 15 kW, 400 V, IP20, Modbus. A variable speed drive runs a motor at the speed the process needs. On fans and pumps, power falls with the cube of speed: at 80% speed a fan needs only about half the power. Replacing a throttling damper or valve with speed control is one of the quickest paybacks in a plant.

Connecting to Plantmargin

Connect the drive's Modbus RTU port to the RS485 line; speed can also be set by 4–20 mA from the PLC. Installation

• Size the drive for the motor's rated current, not only its kW; this 15 kW drive suits a 15 kW 4-pole motor at normal duty.
• Use screened motor cable earthed at both ends, and keep it short; long cables need an output filter.
• In IP20 form the drive goes inside a ventilated panel; ask for the IP54 cabinet option for dusty or humid rooms.
• Many drives on one supply add harmonics: consider a detuned PF correction bank.
